You don’t need to be a mechanical engineering major to join; all interested engineering majors are welcome! We will be discussing what ASME is all about, which types of activities our chapter would be most interested in pursuing this year, and more. We’re very interested in getting more younger students involved this year, so we hope to see some of you there! or jmill295@vols.utk.edu (Jack Miller)updated Wed Sep 6th 9:38 am - Welcome to EF 157We would like to welcome you to the University of Tennessee and in particular to EF 157 Honors Physics for Engineers I. Our first class will be in the Zeanah Engineering Complex (ZEC) 360 on Wed, Aug 23. This class meets every weekday: 50 min on MWF(Mon/Wed/Fri) and 75 min on TR (Tue/Thur). Check your schedule for your correct class time and room number for each day.
We will be using this website to manage all aspects of this course: https://efcms.engr.utk.edu/ef157-2023-08.
Please login and make yourself familiar with the Syllabus and structure of the site. There is an assignment you can start working on before the first class (the deadline is 8am Friday Aug 25). Go to Learning Pages (left menu) and then 1-1: Intro to EF 157. As you go through the various tabs, there are some click-to-reveal text, 2 forms to fill out, a short video to watch, and example questions to answer. The Background Form and Picture Upload are important to us because they help us get to know you faster.
You can find a Math Review on the left menu that highlights the importance of different skills to our physics class. Being familiar with these skills will help you solve physics problems in less time and with fewer errors. It includes some optional math questions that do not impact your grade in any way.
You can also explore other parts of the site (Announcements, Calendar, Research Paper, Help, Procedures, Resources, Discussion Board) or start working on the pre-class assignments for Lecture 1-2 if you'd like. We will cover the structure of the class, how to navigate the website, introduction of teaching assistants, and more on the first two days of the semester (Wed Aug 23 and Thur Aug 24).
We hope the coming year will be rewarding for all of you.
